\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 Peter wrote his second letter to \u201cthose who have obtained like precious faith with us\u201d <\/em>(2 Peter 1:1). While it is true that Peter and his readers shared the same faith and that it was precious to each one of them, that isn\u2019t what Peter was emphasizing here. \u201cLike\u201d doesn\u2019t modify faith \u2013 it modifies \u201cprecious.\u201d In fact, \u201clike precious\u201d is one compound word in Peter\u2019s language. It is accurately rendered, \u201cequally precious.\u201d The faith of Peter\u2019s readers was equally as precious as his own faith.<\/span><\/p>\n

\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 Do you ever feel insignificant because you aren\u2019t a high-profile Christian? Do you wish you could be Peter or Timothy or Barnabas? \u201cIf only I were like brother Famous over at congregation X \u2013 then my Christianity would really be significant!\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n

\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 If you have obeyed the gospel of Christ, your faith is every bit as precious as that of an apostle! It was obtained the very same way. The apostles believed in the same Jesus you and I trust. Paul heard the same gospel you heard. He arose and was baptized and washed away his sins just as you and I did (Acts 22:16).<\/span><\/p>\n

\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 Think of the most widely known and respected member of the body of Christ living today with whom you are familiar. That person\u2019s faith is precious; but yours is equally precious.<\/span><\/p>\n

\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 Various members of the body have different functions. Some are more highly visible than others. That doesn\u2019t mean one member\u2019s faith is of any more or less value, either to the Lord or to the church. So never minimize the value of your faith. It is precious to God and it ought to be precious to you!<\/span><\/p>\n
